late model Dodge Ram diesels.

The Smarty programmer by MADS Electronics is a hand-held tuner that achieves
dramatic drivetrain improvements, without the hassle of popping the hood,
pulling out the vehicle control module and replacing a chip. The programmer
plugs in instantly to the Dodge under dash "ALDL" programming port, making
installation quick and easy. It only takes about 1.5 up to 4.5 minutes to
reprogram your truck, depending on the truck model, and requires no tools or
mechanical skills whatsoever!

MADS Smarty Technology:
The MADS tuning software is called CaTCHER software. The MADS original products
were EPROMs and Flash-EPROMs which could be installed in place of the original
OEM EPROMs and Flash-EPROMs located in the vehicle’s on-board control module.
These chips, just like the tuners of today, keep the entire vehicle safety and
emissions systems intact, but modify the fuel injection settings to deliver
dramatic power, torque and driveability improvements. However, today, with the
advent of OBD-II vehicle control module in the early 1990’s, most domestic
vehicle manufacturers installed under-dash ports (“ALDL ports”) which allowed
dealers and service techs to “re-flash” the vehicle control module to change
engine settings without replacing any chip. Hence, MADS created the easy to use
Smarty programmer!
Fuel consumption is a very valuable feature of MADS company research with its
Smarty programmer. The CaTCHER software can be used to reduce fuel consumption
up to 15% depending on the driving conditions, saving money and reducing the
vehicle emissions at the same time.
With 10 different performance settings available on the Smarty, you can achieve
performance improvements of 75HP to 170Hp depending on vehicle and other
upgrades to your truck!
Horsepower Settings:
(All of the levels, except #0, have a modified "Torque management" ( TQM ). The
throttle response is greatly improved but is set to a safe limit for your tranny
and rest of the driveline)
• SW # 0 : Half power
• SW # 1 : 30 Hp increase, with added timing.
• SW # 2 : 60 Hp increase, no added timing.
• SW # 3 : 60 Hp increase, with added timing.
• SW # 4 : 90 Hp increase, no added timing.
• SW # 5 : 90 Hp increase, with added timing.
• SW # 6 : 130 Hp increase, no added timing.
• SW # 7 : 130 Hp increase, with added timing.
• SW # 8 : 170 Hp increase, no added timing.***
• SW # 9 : 170 Hp increase, with added timing.***
*** 170 Hp Only for the 04.5's and up.
Notes:
• Tested on Stock Trucks
• SW's # 8 & #9 for the 03-04 trucks are similar to #6 and #7 but have more fuel
down low and even less TQM.
• The 03 produced 130 Hp more @ 30 Psi of boost while the 04.5 produced 170 Hp
more @ 40! Psi.
• The above declared HP numbers are all rounded down to the closest number.
• DTC Code reader. The name says it all. You can read and erase codes. Codes are
displayed also in plain English. That's old news by now. The VP Smarty is the
first programmer to provide the DTC Code utility. ( Smarty does erase ABS codes
too but does not display them )
